Bride’s Wedding Survival Kit 15 “just in case” items your maid of honour should have access to
Over the last few years, I’ve photographed a lot of weddings and not all of them have gone exactly to plan. When the wheels come off a really useful Maid of Honour steps up and saves the day because she has thought about the bride and has anticipated every eventuality. Rather than losing her head and letting the situation cause a meltdown she calmly sorts things out.
With this in mind, I’ve put together a list of 15 items a maid of honour should have sorted out before the big day
- A pair of flats that the bride can walk in (flip flops would do!) These are a must if you will need to walk across the grass at any point throughout the day. You may like to think about having a pair for every girl in your bridal party as well as yourself.
- Tide To Go Stick – Keep that dress white! This has NEVER let me down
- Small Sewing Kit – Sewing a button back onto the groom’s jacket, cutting out an annoying label or fixing a stray hem, opening up a buttonhole in a jacket, lots of little things but they make such a difference if done rather than ignored.
- Mints – Keep that first kiss fresh!
- Hair Grips – It always seems like you can never have enough hair grips!
- Tissues – For all sorts of reasons!
- Hair Spray – When the makeup artist has already gone and the bride has one rebellious hair that is driving her nuts!
- Lint Roller – Because snow looks great on the ground, not on your outfit.
- Blotting Papers – Because we are all human and humans sweat. Sweat is not friends with makeup. Jacket armpits with sweat marks on them don’t look great in photographs. Using a sheet of blotting paper is the most effective method of drying them out quickly
- Clear Umbrella – There is always a chance of rain on your wedding day so plan ahead and purchase enough for each bridal party member. Leave all the tags on so you can return them if it doesn’t rain.
- Mini First Aid Kit – Or at least a pack of plasters to help with any blisters that may develop during the course of the day and a pack of headache pills
- White Chalk – If you can’t get a small stain out of a wedding dress you can rub white chalk on it! Magic!
- Granola Bars – Or similar quick snack Wedding breakfasts can happen at unusual times of the day. Grooms can be hungry units and they perform better when they have consumed so do everyone a favour and produce the snack bar at a strategic moment – the whole team will LOVE you for it.
- Safety pins – Somehow I never regret having a few safety pins in my camera bag, usually called upon during bride’s preparations for running repairs to all sorts of things from flowers to garters and even in one case a flower girl’s knickers.
- Deodorant – Because someone will most likely forget this and you don’t want to smell them all day.
So there you have it! The 15 things a Maid of Honour can really helpfully arrange to have with her for the big day. Put together your wedding survival kit and have it ready to go about a week before your wedding day. That way you will have time to put any surprises right.
